Our Team
Charles Hansen – ASNT Level III, CWI, API
Charles Hansen, the founder of HansenNDE, began his journey in Nondestructive Testing (NDT) with a genuine desire to learn and improve his skills. His introduction to the field dates back to his time in a high school weld shop, where he found himself fascinated by the intricacies of inspecting his own welds. This early interest sparked his curiosity about NDT and set him on a path of continuous learning and growth.
In 2007, Charles formalized his commitment to NDT by enrolling at Louisiana Tech University. After graduation, he began his professional journey at Capitol Ultrasonics (now Acuren) as a Level II inspector. Immersed in diverse industrial environments, from refineries to fabrication facilities, Charles honed his skills across a spectrum of NDT methods including Radiography, Ultrasonics, Magnetic Particle, Visual and Penetrant Testing.
Being a self-motivated individual and driven by the challenges ultrasonics provided, Charles quickly progressed down a path that led him to advanced ultrasonics. He passed his first API in 2010 as a QUTE shearwave examiner. Throughout his career, his expertise in crack detection and weld inspections has left an impact on projects spanning the United States and beyond.
After transitioning from fieldwork, Charles Hansen embarked on a new chapter at VeriPhase, assuming the role of QA/QC 3rd Party. His responsibilities were dynamic, ranging from hands-on management and direction of client projects onsite to virtual data review and proctoring Performance Demonstration Qualifications Exams for multiple companies.
In addition to his diverse responsibilities, Charles played a role in the development of ADT, an innovative automated Phased Array data analysis software program. His contributions to ADT were significant, resulting in several patents granted in the US, Canada, and Internationally. This groundbreaking software revolutionized the process of locating discontinuities in PAUT data, showcasing his commitment to advancing technology and enhancing the efficiency of NDT inspections.
Today, Charles holds several certifications, including API QUPA, API 510 Pressure Vessel Inspector, API 570 Piping Inspector, AWS CWI, and multiple ASNT Level III certifications in MT, PT, and UT, alongside a PCN Level II in TOFD and ACCP Level III in UT. Committed to knowledge sharing, he has contributed to the professional development of others through teaching engagements nationwide and even a two-week PAUT class in China.
